Kaizer Chiefs Out To Erase Last Season’s Disappointment
Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel says the Soweto giants are treating Sunday’s Toyota Cup clash against Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC as far more than a pre season friendly, insisting the team is determined to lift silverware ahead of the new campaign.
Amakhosi will host Scottland FC at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday as they look to end their preparations for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership on a winning note under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz.
Chiefs Eye Winning Finish To Pre Season
Chiefs recently returned from a demanding pre season tour of Spain, where they drew 1-1 with Scottish Premiership side Rangers before playing out another 1-1 draw against Saudi Pro League outfit Al Kholood. Their tour ended with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Spanish side Elche.
While the results offered valuable preparation, Miguel believes Sunday’s encounter presents an opportunity for the team to build momentum before the league season gets underway.
The Angolan defender stressed that the Toyota Cup carries added significance, particularly after Chiefs ended last season without a trophy, and said the squad is eager to give supporters something to celebrate while laying a strong foundation for the months ahead.
Respect For Zimbabwean Champions
Miguel expects a stern test against Scottland FC, who arrive in South Africa as reigning Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League champions and CAF Champions League qualifiers.
He described the visitors as a physical side capable of causing problems but expressed confidence that Chiefs are ready for the challenge as they fine tune preparations for the new season.
The match is also set to feature an emotional reunion, with former Kaizer Chiefs stars Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat expected to face their former club in Scottland colours.
New Era Under Da Cruz
The Toyota Cup will provide another opportunity for supporters to see Fernando Da Cruz’s philosophy take shape before Chiefs open their Betway Premiership campaign next week.
With confidence growing after a productive pre season and a trophy on the line, Amakhosi will be aiming to deliver a winning performance and begin the new era with silverware.
