Emotional Tributes Pour In For Jayden Adams At Memorial Service
Family, friends, teammates and members of South Africa’s football fraternity gathered in Stellenbosch on Thursday to celebrate the life of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams during an emotional memorial service.
The 25 year old was found dead at a residence in Schotschekloof, Cape Town, on 11 July, just days after returning from representing South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
The first of two memorial services was held at the Stellenbosch Town Hall, where Adams’ loved ones and colleagues reflected on the impact he made both on and off the pitch.
Football Community Pays Tribute
Mamelodi Sundowns players and members of the club’s coaching staff attended the memorial dressed in club tracksuits, standing alongside Adams’ family and friends in honour of their teammate.
As tribute videos celebrating Adams’ life played throughout the service, the hall fell silent, with many mourners visibly overcome with emotion.
Bafana Bafana captain and Sundowns teammate Ronwen Williams remembered Adams not only for his exceptional football ability but also for the person he was.
Williams thanked Adams for his contribution to South African football, saying he would be remembered for his vision, passing ability and the brotherhood he shared with those around him.
Former Coaches Reflect On Special Talent
Former coaches Steve Barker and Steve Komphela were among those who paid tribute, describing Adams as one of the finest footballers they had the privilege of coaching.
Both reflected on his remarkable talent and the qualities that made him one of South Africa’s brightest midfielders, whose career continued to flourish at both club and international level.
Adams had recently returned from the FIFA World Cup with Bafana Bafana before his untimely passing shocked the South African football community.
Heartfelt Tributes From The Mothers Of His Children
Away from the memorial service, emotional messages also continued to pour in on social media.
Jody Solomons, the mother of Adams’ son Jude, shared a touching tribute reflecting on their journey together despite the challenges they had faced.
She acknowledged that although their relationship had taken different paths, nothing could change the fact that Adams was Jude’s father. Solomons also vowed to ensure that Jude and Adams’ daughter, Allaia, whom he shared with partner Aqueelah Adendorf, would grow up knowing one another and preserving the bond their father had wanted them to have.
She thanked Adams for giving her their son and said his memory would continue to live on through Jude.
Adendorf also shared an emotional farewell, remembering Adams as the love of her life, her greatest supporter and best friend, while expressing the immense pain his passing had left behind.
Final Farewell Planned
Adams’ funeral is scheduled to take place on 25 July as family, friends and the wider football community prepare to bid a final farewell to one of South Africa’s most gifted midfielders.
The outpouring of tributes from teammates, coaches and loved ones has highlighted not only Adams’ achievements on the field but also the lasting impact he made on those fortunate enough to know him.
