Bayern Munich Hand Harry Kane Contract Extension Until 2029
Harry Kane has committed his future to Bayern Munich after signing a new contract that will keep him at the Bundesliga club until 2029.
The England captain joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 for £86 million and was entering the final 12 months of his original four-year agreement. The renewal puts an end to speculation surrounding his future, with Barcelona and several Saudi Arabian clubs previously linked with the striker.
Kane, 33, expressed his happiness at remaining in Munich, where he and his family have settled comfortably. He also praised head coach Vincent Kompany and the quality within the squad, emphasising his desire to continue competing for major honours with the German champions.
Kane’s Bayern Journey Delivers Trophies And Records
Kane arrived in Germany determined to prove himself at the highest level after spending much of his career at Tottenham without winning a major trophy.
That ambition has since been rewarded, with the striker collecting five trophies during his time at Bayern, including Bundesliga titles, domestic cup success and two Franz Beckenbauer Supercups.
His individual achievements have been equally impressive. Kane has scored 102 goals in 102 Bundesliga appearances, winning three consecutive Golden Boot awards. He was also named Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2024-25.
Last season proved particularly memorable, as Kane registered a club-record 61 goals in 51 matches to help Bayern complete a league and cup double.
His performances also earned him the Ballon d’Or, making him the first Bundesliga player since 1996 to claim the prestigious individual award.
New Deal Could End Premier League Return Hopes
Kane’s decision to extend his stay in Germany could have significant implications for his pursuit of another major record.
The forward remains 47 goals short of matching Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record of 260. However, his new Bayern contract makes a return to English football before 2029 less likely.
Despite that possibility, Kane’s international career continues to flourish. He remains England’s all-time leading goalscorer, with 73 goals in 65 appearances, and equalled Peter Shilton’s record of 125 caps in September.
At this summer’s World Cup, Kane scored six goals to take his tournament tally to 14 in 18 appearances, becoming England’s leading goalscorer in the competition.
His new agreement will keep him at Bayern through Euro 2028 and until shortly before his 36th birthday, taking him to within a year of the 2030 World Cup.
Bayern Delighted To Secure Their Star Forward
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund welcomed the renewal, highlighting Kane’s importance to the team both on and off the pitch.
Freund praised the striker’s leadership, all-round qualities and commitment, describing him as an important figure in the club’s continued success.
Kane has already scored 12 goals for Bayern this season, taking his overall tally to 156 goals in 161 appearances.
With his future settled, the England captain can now focus on adding to his trophy collection and continuing his remarkable goalscoring record in Germany.
