State Awaits Key Ballistic Evidence In Ndodana Tshuma Case
The State is still awaiting a ballistic report in the case against United Kingdom national Ndodana Tshuma, who is accused of murdering his wife and two young daughters before fleeing to South Africa.
Tshuma appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm, which prosecutors claim he purchased in Alexandra after arriving in South Africa.
The firearm is alleged to have been intended for Tshuma to take his own life, with investigators still awaiting forensic analysis to conclude the ballistic examination. Prosecutors also told the court that several witness statements linked to the firearm investigation remain outstanding.
In addition to the South African firearm case, Tshuma is the subject of extradition proceedings after British authorities requested his return to face three murder charges in the United Kingdom.
The 45 year old was arrested in Kensington earlier this month during a joint operation involving the South African Police Service and Interpol.
During the court proceedings, the defence confirmed it had received the arrest warrant issued by United Kingdom authorities but requested access to the preliminary extradition documents already submitted as part of the process.
The extradition request is also being processed by the Department of Justice, with Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi required to approve the request before it can proceed.
British authorities are still expected to submit the full extradition application as the legal process continues.
