JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed the resignation of Premier Senzo Mchunu in an urgent briefing held tonight.
The former premier will now be replaced by Transport and Safety MEC Willies Mchunu.
The party has quelled speculation that started last week about Mchunu’s role in provincial government following several accusations leveled against him.
Mchunu today handed in his resignation following pressure from the party.
In a meeting held with the party’s leaders last week, Mchunu was given until today to step down for his alleged defiance of the ANC’s leadership.
It’s believed he has been offered a position in the National Assembly.
In a statement released today, Mchunu says he will comply with whatever decisions are taken and will give further updates on his deployment.
