‘Devastating’: Family Breaks Silence After Runner Elizabeth Moselakgomo’s Murder
The family of murdered runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo has spoken publicly for the first time since her body was positively identified.
The 38-year-old’s family confirmed her identity at the Germiston mortuary on Monday, days after she disappeared while out for a run.
Moselakgomo was last seen leaving her home in Rhodesfield on Wednesday. She had left her eight-year-old daughter behind when she went for her run.
Speaking outside the family home, relatives described her death as devastating but said they had received support from family members, friends and the wider community.
The family also said it had confidence in police to establish what happened to Moselakgomo.
Police Probe Five Women’s Deaths
Moselakgomo’s murder comes as police investigate the deaths of five women in the broader Kempton Park and Olifantsfontein area over the past two months.
Her uncle, Andries Moraka, said the family would not speculate about whether the cases were connected, including concerns raised by police about the possibility of a serial killer.
Moraka said the family was satisfied with the progress of the investigation and was receiving regular updates from authorities.
“The information is to our satisfaction because there’s something that is being done behind the scenes. So that one I can assure you, and they are constantly updating me,” he said.
Police have vowed to intensify their investigation into the five deaths.
One suspect remains in custody in connection with the first body discovered in July, as investigators continue working to establish whether there are any links between the cases.
