Madlanga Commission: IDAC Investigator Rejects Claims of Leaking Docket to Feroz Khan
A senior investigator from the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has denied allegations that he leaked information from an active criminal investigation to Crime Intelligence Major-General Feroz Khan.
Colonel Brian Padayachee made the remarks while testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday, where he also dismissed claims that an alleged alliance involving Khan existed within IDAC or the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Padayachee further told the commission that the Khan he had worked with during their time at Crime Intelligence was not the same individual portrayed in evidence presented before the inquiry.
His testimony follows earlier evidence heard by the commission, in Khan’s absence, concerning his unexplained wealth.
The commission previously heard allegations that Khan purchased 30 vehicles within a single year. He is also said to own a car parts business that reportedly generates around R3 million annually, in addition to a property portfolio estimated to be worth about R39 million.
According to evidence before the commission, the portfolio includes luxury properties in George, Houghton and Umhlanga.
Padayachee said he became acquainted with Khan while they were both serving at Crime Intelligence but maintained that their relationship was strictly professional.
He explained that Khan, in his capacity as national component head of counter and security intelligence, oversaw security intelligence matters and regularly chaired organised crime investigation projects at meetings of the National Evaluation Committee at Crime Intelligence’s head office.
