Former DA MP Renaldo Gouws Joins Freedom Front Plus
Former Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Renaldo Gouws has returned to politics after joining the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus).
Gouws was expelled from the DA last year after videos resurfaced in which he used a racial slur. The footage, originally posted on his YouTube channel in 2010 and later deleted, re-emerged through a report and drew widespread condemnation.
Following the controversy, Gouws issued a public apology, calling the video a youthful mistake and expressing remorse for the harm it caused. His apology was part of a settlement with the South African Human Rights Commission, which had pursued a hate speech case against him.
The Freedom Front Plus announced on Tuesday that Gouws had officially joined the party. The move was welcomed by the leadership, who highlighted his political experience, professional background as an industrial psychologist, and strong social media presence.
According to the party, Gouws’s personal values align closely with its focus on freedom, self-determination and the protection of minority rights. He has expressed commitment to working with the VF Plus to promote equal rights and opportunities while contributing to what the party described as a vision of a united and prosperous South Africa.
