As the trip to San Sebastián was predicted to have been a difficult second leg for PSG to negotiate, all eyes were on Mbappé who has seemingly agreed to join Real Madrid this summer. The French forward put on a phenomenal performance to score his 27th and 28th goals of the season.
The 25-year-old gave the home team an early warning when he raced past Hamari Traore to create an opportunity for Bradley Barcola. However, it was well saved by home goalkeeper Alex Remiro.
Six minutes later, Mbappé scored his first goal of the game. He did this by grabbing a pass from Ousmane Dembele, tantalising home defender Igor Zubeldia, and then unleashing a right-foot effort into the bottom-right corner that was so precise and powerful that it momentarily lifted the netting.
Shortly after the first half, Mbappé scored his second goal of the evening after sprinting quickly down the left to receive a pass from Lee Kang-in and confidently finish with a disguised low shot past Remiro at his near post.
The Parisians were rightfully awarded the victory, as Imanol Alguacil’s Sociedad was excessively inactive in the first half and only came to life after falling behind four goals on aggregate. Mikel Merino’s determined effort during the final minutes was only a consolation as it was already far too late.
On Friday, March 15, the draw for the competition’s last eight will be taking place.
