Aretha Franklin, who has previously struggled with her health is very sick and in hospice care. In the first formal acknowledgment of Aretha Franklin’s health status, a spokeswoman for the singer’s family confirmed to the Free Press on Tuesday saying the singer is seriously ill.

A source close to the singer spoke to the Associated Press on Monday to confirm that Franklin is “seriously ill,” although they did not provide any additional details as to the severity of the cause of the 76-year-old singer’s illness.

It is confirmed that despite the treatment and care that Franklin is receiving, the superstar state of health is delicate but family members are doing all they can at this time to spend time with her.

Showbiz 411 reporter Roger Friedman was first to report the singer is “gravely ill,” sharing that Franklin’s family are “asking for prayers and privacy.”

Franklin’s family members “appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have received,” said Gwendolyn Quinn, a longtime publicist for the Queen of Soul.

“She is seriously ill and surrounded by family members who appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have received.”
