PRETORIA – Gospel musician Solomon Molokoane, widely recognized as Solly Moholo, has passed away at the age of 65, as announced by his management team on Facebook.
The statement elaborated that he died on October 2, 2024, while hospitalized. Moholo had been admitted to the hospital after falling ill following his pre-album launch tour in Botswana, and he will be profoundly missed. The family expressed a desire for his laughter to resonate in the heavens and encouraged the public to remember him fondly for the healing music he provided over the years.
In August, Moholo traveled to Botswana to pre-launch his upcoming album, O zo Pepeza. a performance, he fell ill at his residence and was subsequently rushed to the hospital. A September update from his team indicated that he had suffered a stroke and was experiencing multiple organ failure.
The family urgently sought public financial assistance to cover medical expenses amounting to R700,000. According to Apple Music, Moholo gained prominence in the early 2000s with an “endearing sound, look, and dance style” influenced by the Mokhukhu singers associated with the Zion Christian Church.

I offer my deep condolences to the Molokoane family on the passing of our beloved gospel icon Solomon Molokoane, known to us as Solly Moholo. Solly Moholo provided the melodies, rhythms and words of inspiration and comfort, such as we need now, that were the soundtrack of faith, worship and community for millions of South Africans and neighbours in our region for decades. Our sincere sympathies once more to the Molokoanes as we reflect on Solly’s contribution to the spiritual and cultural life of our nation and as we turn up the volume on his recorded performances.
