Former Man United Coach Urges Club To Avoid Rashford Transfer Blunder

Former Manchester United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen has urged the club not to sell Marcus Rashford to a Premier League rival, warning that the England international could come back to haunt the Red Devils.

Rashford’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain after Barcelona opted against making his stay permanent, while no club has yet submitted a serious offer for the forward.

Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with a move worth around £30 million, although no deal has materialised.

‘He Can Still Make A Difference’

Meulensteen believes Rashford still possesses the quality to make an impact at the highest level and warned that strengthening a domestic rival would be a significant risk for United.

The former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson compared Rashford’s situation to Scott McTominay’s departure, although he believes the circumstances are very different.

McTominay has flourished since leaving Old Trafford for Napoli, leading some supporters to question whether United allowed him to leave too soon.

However, Meulensteen argued that Rashford’s ability makes selling him to another Premier League club an even greater gamble.

Move Abroad Preferred

While a reunion under Michael Carrick has not been completely ruled out, it is widely believed both Rashford and United favour a permanent separation this summer.

If that happens, Meulensteen believes United should prioritise a move outside England to avoid facing Rashford in domestic competition.

Possible destinations could include one of Europe’s top clubs, allowing the forward to continue playing Champions League football, while Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer have also been mentioned as potential options.

Big Decision Looms For United

Rashford’s future remains one of Manchester United’s biggest unresolved transfer issues ahead of the new season.

With interest yet to develop into a formal bid, the club faces a difficult decision over whether to cash in on one of its academy graduates or risk seeing him rediscover his best form elsewhere.

For now, one thing is clear from Meulensteen’s perspective: if United decide to part ways with Rashford, they should ensure it is not to one of their Premier League rivals.
