The memorial service for hip-hop artist ProKid will be held at the Bassline in Newtown, Johannesburg, on Thursday.
The 37-year-old Soweto-born musician, whose real name is Linda Mkhize, died last week after suffering a seizure.
Fans, musicians as well as politicians have been paying tribute to Prokid. He’s regarded as one of the pioneers of local hip-hop and has inspired a lot of local rappers.
ProKid was born on the 25th of June 1981 in Diepkloof, Soweto. He was signed to Gallo Record Company after his independently released track ‘Soweto’ became popular.
Some of his popular songs are “dankie san” and “uthini ngo pro” released between 2005 and 2009. His accolades include the HYPE awards and the Channel O Music Video Awards.
He’s regarded as one of the pioneers of local hip hop and has inspired a lot of local rappers.
