Controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi has reportedly declined to open a police case after an alleged attempt on his life in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, on Monday night.
According to police, Mogotsi claimed he was targeted by unknown individuals travelling in a white bakkie. His red Chevrolet sedan, which he was believed to be driving during the incident, has been taken to the Vosloorus Police Station for forensic examination.
Ballistic experts are currently analysing the vehicle, collecting fingerprints, and determining how many bullets struck it. Black polish and tape have been applied to gather physical evidence as part of the investigation.
Mogotsi, a North West businessman linked to allegations of police corruption and suspected of acting as a middleman between senior police officials and underworld figures, told authorities he feared for his life and therefore refused to open a case.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that officers later opened an attempted murder case after Mogotsi declined to do so.
She added that the businessman had promised to return to the station by 8am on Tuesday to provide a statement, but had yet to appear more than five hours later.
