Over 4 000 delegates are expected to elect the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leadership at the party’s second elective conference which will start at Nasrec in Johannesburg on Friday.

Some positions are expected to be highly contested. However, EFF leader, Julius Malema is expected to retain his position.

Marshal Dlamini, who is currently a member of the party’s Central Command Team, is tipped to be the next general-secretary, to take over from Godrich Gardee.

Meanwhile, delegates will also deliberate the party’s policies on issues including land and immigration.

Political analyst, Ralph Mathekge says Malema’s image has diminished after the Zuma-era.

“You look at the image of Mr. Malema is no longer the same. If one were to do an approval it will not be better now, it will be worse now than he were months ago while President Jacob Zuma was still in charge. So they’re struggling and you’re seeing even their public spats going into this conference, you see public spats emerging. It shows that that image of the EFF as a tightly knit leadership that is almost impenetrable its all gone, they’re struggling like any other political party now.”
