The South African Police Service has dismissed claims circulating on social media that missing Pretoria businessman Jerry Boshoga has been found. Boshoga, who is linked to controversial figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, has been missing since November last year.

According to police, Boshoga was kidnapped on 18 November 2024 while attending a business meeting in Centurion. Shortly after his disappearance, disturbing videos showing him being tortured were sent to his family, along with a ransom demand of ten million rand.

In response to growing speculation online, police confirmed that Boshoga has not been located, dead or alive. They described the investigation as being at a sensitive stage and urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information.

Authorities noted that the false reports shared on social media over the past 24 hours had caused unnecessary distress. They said the misleading posts had triggered panic and deepened the emotional strain on Boshoga’s loved ones, including his mother, wife and children.

Police have reiterated the importance of responsible sharing of information, particularly on platforms where speculation can quickly spiral. They also appealed to social media users to consider the impact of such posts on the victim’s family.

Earlier this month, Boshoga’s relatives publicly pointed to Matlala as a possible suspect in the kidnapping. While police have acknowledged this allegation, they have neither confirmed nor denied any link between Matlala and the case.

Investigators assured the public that they remain in close contact with Boshoga’s family. Should there be any significant updates, the family will be informed first before any information is released to the public.

The search for Jerry Boshoga continues.
