CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape education department said it’s investigating Wynberg Girls High School.

Pupils took to social media, detailing allegations against their female hostel head.

Black girls from the school claim they’re being racially and sexually abused.

They are calling for the axing of the accused staff member.

They also demanded that no pupil be victimised for openly speaking out about their experiences.

“She’s had our self-esteem broken down and she’s broken our souls and we feel scared and afraid to have social interactions with white kids because we feel that they might feel that you trying to do something harmful to them,” a pupil said.

“We’ve complained about her since day one but there’s nothing that they are doing.

“So we thought as students it’s our duty to take the problem to our matters and let the public know,” she added.

The school says it will comply with any recommendations from the department.

“It goes without saying that the school will implement whatever recommendations are given by the circuit manager, WCED, the independent investigation,” said principal Shirley Harding.

The school also says that a transformation process has been underway over the past six months, and changes from a subsequent report still have to be implemented.

Meanwhile, the hostel head accused by the pupils continues her duties.
