President Cyril Ramaphosa has dismissed two deputy ministers who were appointed two years ago as part of the Democratic Alliance’s representation in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
The decision follows a request submitted by DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis two weeks ago as part of an internal reshuffle of the party’s executive deployments within government.
Samantha Graham-Mare and Sello Seithlolo confirmed their removal after sharing their dismissal letters, received from the President, on their social media platforms on Tuesday.
Graham-Mare served as Deputy Minister in the Electricity and Energy portfolio, while Seithlolo held one of the Deputy Minister positions in the Water and Sanitation department.
In her statement, Graham-Mare described her time in office as a privilege, saying it had been the greatest honour of her life to serve in the role. She also thanked former DA leader John Steenhuisen for the opportunity.
Both she and Seithlolo expressed appreciation for their time in government and acknowledged the support of party leadership during their tenure.
Graham-Mare also praised Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, describing him as “incredible” following their working relationship in the portfolio.
