The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a product recall for Slimsy Pomegranate Squash Concentrate 1L following safety concerns that could pose a risk to consumers.
The affected products were sold between 22 January 2026 and 23 March 2026 and distributed across Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Free State and KwaZulu Natal.
According to the NCC, a total of 2,894 cases, amounting to 17,364 units, have been made available on the market.
The recall was prompted by a defect identified in certain bottles, which have been reported to be swollen or blown due to gas formation inside the product. This could cause the bottles to rupture, potentially leading to physical injury. There are also concerns that consuming the product may result in foodborne illness.
Consumers who have purchased the affected product are strongly advised not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The NCC has also instructed retailers to remove all affected stock from shelves immediately to prevent further risk to the public. The commission said it will continue to monitor the recall process to ensure compliance with the Consumer Protection Act.
Consumers seeking further information have been encouraged to contact the NCC directly.
The recall follows another recent product safety alert, where Citro Soda Regular was withdrawn by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority after a potential risk of contamination was identified at a manufacturing facility in Johannesburg.
