Johannesburg residents will see higher electricity bills from Tuesday as City Power introduces new tariffs for the 2025/2026 financial year.
The changes, approved by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA), include an average increase of 12.41 percent.
However, the actual adjustment will depend on individual usage and the specific tariff structure applied.
City Power confirmed that low-income and indigent households will remain exempt from the increase.
The residential prepaid low tariff category is designed to shield vulnerable customers from additional charges, offering continued relief amid tough economic conditions.
Under this structure, qualifying households will not pay the R70 service charge or the R130 network capacity fee, which amounts to a total monthly saving of R200.
City Power said the adjustments are necessary to ensure the sustainability of electricity services while still protecting the most financially at-risk communities.
