More than 100 vehicles have been recalled in South Africa after safety concerns were identified in certain Lexus models.
The National Consumer Commission confirmed that the recall affects Lexus LX500d vehicles distributed between March 2025 and January 2026.
Affected Models And Fault
The recall includes the LX500d F Sport and LX500d Overtrail models, which are fitted with a 10-speed automatic transmission system.
According to the NCC, a potential failure in the transmission’s solenoid system could prevent proper communication between the engine and the Transmission Electronic Control Unit.
This may cause the vehicle to over-rev in certain gears, leading to possible transmission damage and loss of power while driving.
Officials warned that in severe cases, transmission fluid could leak, increasing the risk of a crash or even a fire if exposed to an ignition source.
What Owners Should Do
Owners of affected vehicles are urged to take their cars to an authorised Lexus dealership for a free reprogramming of the transmission system.
The NCC said the repairs will be done at no cost to consumers and that it will continue monitoring the recall process under the Consumer Protection Act.
Volkswagen Also Flags Safety Issue
Meanwhile, Volkswagen Group Africa has also reported a safety concern affecting some Volkswagen Polo Vivo models manufactured between February 2025 and February 2026.
The issue relates to the handbrake, which may not engage properly or could disengage unexpectedly.
Affected customers are advised to visit their nearest Volkswagen dealership for inspection and repairs, which will also be carried out at no cost.
