Meter audit programme rolls out in Johannesburg
City Power has also begun a citywide meter auditing programme, which will run from 25 November to 8 December 2025. The initiative is intended to improve billing accuracy and strengthen transparency in operations.
As part of the programme, customers with faulty or tampered meters are expected to cooperate with auditors. Those who refuse will face disconnection and substantial penalties. Fines for single phase connections are set at more than R14 000, with additional fees for reconnection, while three phase users may face charges exceeding R30 000.
The utility has urged residents to make arrangements for their audits as the programme is being rolled out in phases, with further auditing and meter replacements planned at other Service Delivery Centres over the coming days.
