Popular musician and television personality Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, better known as Jub Jub, appeared briefly in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with firearm-related charges stemming from an incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale.
Maarohanye faces charges of allegedly discharging a firearm in a public place and pointing an object that could reasonably be perceived as a firearm.
The charges relate to an incident that allegedly occurred on June 14. During the subsequent investigation, police reportedly seized a pellet gun from Maarohanye’s residence.
The artist appeared in court while out on bail after successfully obtaining urgent relief from the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg on June 16.
Proceedings were brief as the court was informed that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
As a result, the case was postponed to August 24, 2026, to allow investigators additional time to complete their work.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole confirmed that the charges stem from the alleged Edenvale incident and said the pellet gun formed part of the ongoing investigation.
He added that the NPA remains committed to ensuring that the matter proceeds through the criminal justice system based on the available evidence and without fear, favour or prejudice.
Maarohanye will remain on bail pending his next court appearance, when the matter is expected to return to the Germiston Magistrate’s Court for further proceedings.
