The Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations involving KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi will request additional time to complete its final report.
The committee had initially been expected to conclude its work by the end of April but now plans to seek an extension until the end of May or early June.
During a recent meeting, members noted that key components of the investigation remain incomplete, including outstanding transcripts from forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan and former Independent Police Investigating Directorate head Robert McBride.
Evidence leader Norman Arendse said most transcripts have been finalised, with a draft report expected within a week. The Secretariat has outlined a timeline that includes a draft by early May, followed by submissions from involved parties later in the month.
To accelerate progress, the committee will strengthen its team of evidence leaders, including the return of Advocate Lerato Zikalala.
Chairperson Soviet Lekganyane confirmed that a formal request for an extension will be submitted to National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza.
The committee is also working to access a classified intelligence report from the Inspector-General of Intelligence, which was returned due to procedural issues related to its submission.
In addition, the committee has rejected several requests linked to the inquiry. These include an application to remove testimony from the record and a request for a closed-door session to hear further evidence regarding the death of a former Crime Intelligence official.
Lekganyane said the committee must follow established parliamentary procedures when handling confidential information and submissions.
The investigation continues as the committee works to finalise its findings and submit its report.
