Suspended organised crime unit head Major General Richard Shibiri is expected to return to the Madlanga Commission on Friday, where he will face further cross examination over alleged links to criminal cartels.
Shibiri is set to be questioned on claims that he interfered in sensitive murder investigations and maintained questionable relationships with individuals connected to organised crime.
His testimony before the commission earlier this week has already attracted significant scrutiny.
On Wednesday, the inquiry heard details about his relationship with controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who has frequently been linked to alleged underworld networks.
During the proceedings, Shibiri acknowledged receiving what he described as a personal loan from Matlala. However, he maintained that the money was fully repaid.
The disclosure prompted tough questioning from the commission’s evidence leaders, who raised concerns about the nature of the relationship and whether it may have compromised police investigations.
The senior officer was suspended after earlier testimony suggested he may have received payments from alleged crime bosses, an accusation he has firmly denied.
Shibiri has also rejected claims that the funds he received from Matlala were bribes, insisting the money was a private loan that he later settled in full.
