Controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi has insisted that the extraordinary claims he made before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will be supported by other witnesses yet to testify.

Struggling Under Cross-Examination

During cross-examination, Mogotsi appeared to struggle when asked about his alleged connections to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and criminally accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala. Evidence of message exchanges between Mogotsi, Matlala and Mchunu was examined, with Mogotsi accused of becoming entangled in contradictory statements.

Claims of Espionage and Political Interference

Mogotsi presented testimony involving alleged CIA operatives, coded messages, and accusations of political interference in high-profile police investigations. The dramatic nature of his testimony led the chief evidence leader of the commission, Advocate Matthew Chaskalson, to liken it to a James Bond storyline.

Commissioners and Chaskalson repeatedly questioned the credibility of Mogotsi’s claims, highlighting inconsistencies in his answers. At times, Mogotsi appeared visibly flustered, fumbling for responses as his testimony was challenged.

Allegations of Funding Political Ambitions

Among the points under scrutiny were allegations that Mogotsi facilitated funding for Mchunu’s presidential ambitions through Matlala. His contradictory replies drew intense examination from the commission, raising questions about the veracity of his version of events.

The inquiry continues as Mogotsi’s claims remain unverified and the commission awaits corroboration from other witnesses.
