John Mawere, who shared the video, said the incident had left him shocked and disappointed, particularly given the trust he had placed in Woolworths over the years.

Mawere said he had long associated the retailer with quality, freshness and high standards. However, the alleged discovery had caused him to question those expectations.

In the video, Mawere expressed concern that customers paying premium prices for Woolworths products expected a high level of food handling and hygiene.

He called on Woolworths to explain how the alleged incident occurred, whether there had been a breakdown in its processes and what steps would be taken to prevent a similar situation from happening again.

According to Mawere, the incident was particularly concerning because of the reputation Woolworths had built with its customers.

He said an experience of this nature could have a significant impact on consumer confidence and trust in the brand.

Woolworths was approached for comment and given more than 24 hours to respond to the video and the allegations. No response had been received at the time of publication.
