The attorney representing the man accused of causing a crash that killed 14 schoolchildren in Vanderbijlpark says his client is deeply remorseful.
Ayanda Dludla was arrested in January following the fatal accident and now faces 14 counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and one count of driving without a permit.
Dludla appeared briefly in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on Thursday, where the case was postponed to 22 April to allow for the disclosure of the docket.
According to his legal representative, Dludla has been struggling emotionally while in custody. The accused has often appeared withdrawn during court proceedings, frequently keeping his head bowed.
His newly appointed attorney, Reward Nxumalo, said Dludla has been visibly distressed and has struggled to cope since his arrest. Nxumalo added that he is considering arranging psychological counselling to support his client while the case proceeds.
The matter will return to court in April as the legal process continues.
