Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma on Monday arrived in Botswana for the Extra-Ordinary Summit of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Double Troika.
The Extra-Ordinary Summit scheduled to take place today in the capital Gaborone.
The Presidency said the summit is anticipated to discuss and consider the political and security situation in the SADC region, paying particular attention to the situation in the Kingdom of Lesotho.
“South Africa is participating in the summit in its capacity as the outgoing Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. The Double Troika is made up of six countries, including Botswana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa and Tanzania,” said the Presidency.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is also attending the Extra-Ordinary Summit in his capacity as the SADC-appointed Facilitator on the situation in Lesotho.
President Jacob Zuma is also accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and State Security Minister David Mahlobo.
