Pretoria – The Hawks say they are hot on the heels of suspects who killed two police officers in separate incidents on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Renier Lourens Logois (51), who was the Head of Support at Leote police station was shot and killed at his home in Rietondale, Pretoria, on Monday night.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said 14 used cartridges were found at the scene. Logois’s 1993 Toyota Corolla is also missing and it is suspected that the culprits used it as a gateway vehicle.

In another incident, the body of Constable Mbuyisela James Concoshi (34), who was attached to the Crime Prevention Unit at Welkom police station in the Free State, was found at the backseat of his car along the road between Riebeeckstad and Thabong.

“The marks on his neck showed that he was strangled to death. He also had wounds on his head,” Mulaudzi said on Tuesday.

The Hawks Task Team, which specialises in probing the killing of police officers, say it is following several leads which will see the suspects behind bars.

The National Head of the Hawks, Lieutenant General Mthandazo Ntlemeza, warned the perpetrators that they have now registered their names on the list of the most wanted suspects and said they will not enjoy freedom for long.

He said the Task Team members are very determined to hunt them down and bring them to justice.

“We are hunting the suspects and we will find them. We are determined to remove them from society and their days of tormenting our officers are numbered,” said Ntlemeza.
