PRETORIA – Families affected by the Plastic View shack fire in Pretoria East are taking shelter at a community centre in Mamelodi.
More than 500 people were left homeless after a fire swept through the informal settlement over the weekend.
At least five people died in the blaze.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Some residents have already started rebuilding and authorities are appealing for help.
Meanwhile, Sanco conveyed condolences to families of Plastic View fire victims.
“We are distraught by the heartbreaking losses and wish to convey our condolences to the families that lost their loved ones in the tragic incident,” Sanco national spokesman Jabu Mahlangu said.
“The informal settlement eradication programme must be accelerated to restore the dignity of the homeless,” he said.
