Johannesburg’s emergency management services (EMS) has called on motorists and residents to remain vigilant, with disruptive rainfall expected to continue throughout Monday.
Although no major incidents had been reported by Monday morning, authorities say conditions remain risky as thunderstorms persist across the city.
The South African Weather Service has issued Level 4 and Level 5 warnings, signalling the potential for localised flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said residents should avoid flooded roads, low-lying bridges and fast-flowing streams, especially in informal settlements where the risk is higher.
He also cautioned faith-based groups to postpone river-based activities such as baptisms and cleansing rituals due to elevated water levels.
Authorities will continue monitoring conditions and have urged the public to prioritise safety as adverse weather lingers.
