Eight people have been killed and 22 others displaced after a shack fire in Site C in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats.
The deceased include two adult males, two females and four minor children.
The fire destroyed four structures in the Taiwan Informal Settlement early Monday morning.
City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson, Theo Layne says the cause of the fire is unknown.
He says: “The City’s fire and rescue services responded to Taiwan informal settlement where we had four informal structures that were destroyed by fire. It left 22 people displaced with eight persons that had sustained fatal burns.”
The incident has been handed over to SAPS for further investigation.
