President Bola Tinubu on Thursday authorized the sum of N70,000 as the national minimum wage, according to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy
Tinubu is alleged to have announced the higher wage during a meeting with the leaders of the Organized Labour in Abuja.
Thursday’s meeting comes one week after the President’s initial meeting with Labour leaders last week.
The new minimum wage, once passed by the National Assembly, will replace the N30,000 minimum salary that expired on April 18, 2024.
At exactly 03:31 pm, Onanuga wrote on his official X handle, @aonanuga, saying, “Breaking: President Bola Tinubu has approved N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers, with a promise to review the national minimum wage law every three years.”
“President Tinubu also committed to find measures to help the private sector and subnationals pay the minimum wage.
“President Tinubu revealed the choices during a meeting with TUC and NLC leaders in Abuja on Thursday, the second time the parties had met in seven days.
“The Labour leaders applauded President Tinubu for the fatherly gesture as the President also promised to use his discretionary powers meet the demands of university unions demanding unpaid 4 months salaries.”
