Johannesburg – After receiving multiple messages from readers asking whether Zeely.ai is worth the hype, TownPress is launching its first in a new series examining trending tech tools and online platforms gaining traction across South African social media feeds.

Zeely.ai, an AI-powered advertising and video creation platform, has been widely promoted as a fast way for entrepreneurs and small businesses to generate ads without hiring designers or agencies. With sponsored content appearing frequently across Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, many South Africans have begun asking a simple question: Is it actually any good?

A couple of articles and review of public user feedback on Trustpilot shows a mixed picture. While Zeely.ai maintains a generally positive overall rating, the breakdown reveals a significant portion of one-star reviews alongside five-star praise. Supporters describe the platform as easy to use, especially for beginners with no design experience. They highlight the speed at which ads and short promotional videos can be generated.

However, critical reviews raise recurring concerns. Some users report confusion around free trials and subscription billing, while others claim difficulty canceling accounts. A number of reviewers say the AI-generated videos felt generic or not tailored enough to their brand. Others mention that although ads generated clicks, the results did not convert into meaningful sales.

It is important to note that Zeely.ai responds publicly to negative reviews, indicating engagement with customer feedback. At the same time, the volume of mixed reactions suggests a gap between marketing expectations and real-world outcomes for certain users.

The broader context matters. AI marketing tools are being positioned globally as accessible shortcuts to professional advertising. But automation does not replace core business fundamentals such as audience targeting, pricing strategy, product-market fit, and conversion optimization. For some users, disappointment may stem not only from the tool itself but from expectations shaped by aggressive digital marketing.

This first TownPress tech dive is not intended as an attack on Zeely.ai. Rather, it reflects growing community curiosity about online tools being heavily advertised to entrepreneurs and content creators. As AI platforms continue to be considered by the South African market, scrutiny around transparency, billing clarity, onboarding support, and measurable performance will likely intensify.

TownPress has not reached out to Zeely.ai for comment on user concerns relating to subscriptions, cancellation processes, and quality feedback. Their response will be valuable to this conversation when received.

We also invite readers to share personal experiences with Zeely.ai. Has it improved your marketing workflow, or did it fall short of expectations?
