JOHANNESBURG – Fikile Mbalula believes SACP leader Chris Hani’s killer, Janusz Walus, is a racist murderer who deserves to rot in jail.
Mbalula was speaking outside the Constitutional Court on Monday when a group of ANC and SACP supporters gathered in Braamfontein to protest against Walus’ release on parole.
Walus shot the Hani on April 10, 1993. He has served 23 years in prison.
Last week, the North High Court ordered that Walus be released within 14 days.
“We are here in one voice with the majority of our people to say what that judge said is absolute madness and it must be challenged.
“Black and white South Africans know Walus is a killer. He did not show remorse. He did not tell any truth. He deserves to rot in jail for the rest of his life,” said Mbalula.
Hani’s wife, Limpo, attended the gathering.
A memorandum appealing for the North High Court’s decision to be reviewed was was handed to the ConCourt.
