According to a notice issued by the municipality’s Communication, Marketing and Events Department, the outage is scheduled to take place on June 27 and 28 from 08:00 to 18:00 on both days.

Substation Upgrade Behind Planned Outage

The interruption forms part of work being undertaken through the Pyramid 132kV Substation Refurbishment Project, which aims to strengthen and improve the reliability of the city’s electricity network.

The planned work includes the installation and connection of a newly constructed 132kV bay at the Pyramid Substation, as well as the construction of a concrete perimeter fence between the Pyramid high-voltage yard and the Rooiwal 132kV switching yard.

Municipal officials said the temporary disruption is necessary to facilitate critical upgrades that will contribute to the long-term stability and performance of the electricity supply network.

Areas Expected To Be Affected

A number of residential, commercial and industrial areas are expected to experience electricity interruptions during the maintenance period.

Affected areas include Montana Park, Montana Tuine, Montana Estates, Zambezi Country Estate, Doornpoort extensions, Sinoville extensions, Kolonnade Shopping Centre and its surrounding retail precinct, Rooiwal, Vastfontein, Waterval, Grootfontein, East Lynne, Waverley, Silvertondale and Lindopark.

Several powerlines, toll gate facilities, railway infrastructure, water treatment facilities and public service sites, including Pyramid Clinic and the Waterworks Treatment Plant, may also be affected.

Residents Urged To Prepare

The City of Tshwane has urged residents and businesses in affected areas to make the necessary preparations ahead of the scheduled interruption.

Municipal officials further cautioned that all electrical installations should be treated as live throughout the outage period as electricity supply could be restored without prior notice.

The city apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation while essential work is carried out on the electricity network.

The Pyramid 132kV Substation Refurbishment Project forms part of broader efforts by the municipality to modernise critical infrastructure and improve the reliability of power supply across Tshwane.
