With the deadline to update prepaid electricity meters fast approaching, Eskom has warned that failure to upgrade could leave users without electricity.
All prepaid meters must be updated to Key Revision Number 2 (KRN 2) by 20:24 on November 24, 2024.
After this deadline, unupgraded meters will no longer accept electricity tokens, cutting off power supply to affected households.
Eskom has made it clear that no extensions will be granted. Customers purchasing tokens via banking apps or other online platforms will receive two 20-digit codes after recharging.
These codes must be entered into their meter to complete the update.
Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa confirmed that the deadline remains fixed, citing technical constraints that make an extension impossible.
He emphasised the importance of compliance, noting that households with outdated meters will face additional costs if their meters require physical replacement by Eskom.
Eskom has urged users to act promptly to avoid disruptions and additional expenses, as the consequences of missing the deadline could be both costly and inconvenient.
