JOHANNESBURG – Home owners across the country will have to tighten their belts.
Increases in municipal rates and services kick in as from Friday.
In Johannesburg, property rates will go up by almost 6 percent.
This means residents will be paying and extra 13.2 percent for water, and nearly 7 percent more for electricity.
Cape Town residents will also have to pay an additional 6 percent for their rates and services.
Economists have warned that the increases could have a heavy impact on households.
The hike comes at the back of increasing food and petrol costs.
