Westville, KwaZulu-Natal – Police are investigating the shooting of civil engineer Sbonelo Mkhwanazi in Westville, in what authorities believe may have been a targeted attack.

Emergency services responded to the scene after reports of gunfire in the Durban suburb. Police cordoned off the area while forensic teams collected evidence and interviewed potential witnesses.

The motive for the shooting has not yet been established, and no arrests had been confirmed at the time of publication. Investigators are working to determine whether the incident was linked to personal, professional or criminal motives.

Community members expressed shock over the attack, describing Westville as generally quiet despite rising concerns about violent crime in parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward, as efforts continue to track down those responsible.

The incident adds to growing concerns about targeted shootings and the safety of professionals operating in urban areas.
