Atletico Madrid and Memphis Depay are set to part ways, with the Dutchman set to become a free agent this summer.
The Dutchman is one of the players likely to leave Atletico this summer. According to sources, his 18-month contract will not be extended automatically despite the fact that it was initially agreed that he would stay until 2025.
Barcelona was thought to have a 50% sell-on clause on the 30-year-old, but it looks they will also lose out on money, with him leaving for free.
He will now be free to sign a contract with any team he wishes. He transferred for €3 million in January 2023, and despite some impressive cameos, he has never really found a permanent place in the team.
Memphis has played 31 games, scoring nine goals and providing two assists overall, translating into a strong goal contribution to minutes ratio.
Despite some highlight-reel moments in the Champions League against Granada and Inter earlier in the season, Diego Simeone has been gradually losing faith in his availability.
There were rumours that he and Atletico were at differences over his conditioning. The Dutch-born forward is expected to make Ronald Koeman’s final 26-man squad for the UEFA Euro 2024, set to take place in June and July 2024 in Germany.
Memphis Depay is expected to receive numerous offers from other clubs as he is still at the height of his career, even though no team has showed interest in him as of yet.
