Durban – The Mayor of the eThekwini Municipality, Cyril Xaba, has welcomed the reopening of the Hilton Hotel Durban, which will significantly benefit the city’s tourism economy.
Xaba pointed out that the reopening of the hotel comes at the right time, namely at the start of Tourism Month, which is celebrated annually in September.
“The reopening of the hotel will add to the range of luxury executive accommodation in Durban. The phased reopening of the hotel will also strategically enhance the city’s business prospects when bidding for national and international conferences,” said the Mayor.
In addition to improving the tourism offering for visitors to the city, the reopening of the hotel will also contribute to job creation, Xaba said.
“The Hilton Hotel is also a great asset to the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC), which is located close to the hotel.
“When the Durban ICC conducts its product promotion, it will feature easy accessibility to prestigious accommodations that will further boost the confidence of business travellers.
“Convenient accessibility is also a benefit for dignitaries and high security risk guests as there is no need to travel long distances and all facilities are easily accessible for business travel. We are pleased that our efforts to invest in the city through our urban renewal programme are beginning to yield positive results,” he said.
The Hilton is in a prime location in the city’s business tourism, meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions district. It is also home to the Durban ICC and the Durban Exhibition Centre.
