DURBAN – Police in Mandeni arrested two suspects just hours after they allegedly shot three people, killing two, in the eMakhwanini area of Mangethe on Monday afternoon.
Officers responded to reports of the shooting and arrived at the scene to find a 62-year-old man and his 43-year-old daughter fatally shot, while the man’s 57-year-old wife had been rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Through swift investigations, police identified the suspects, who were reportedly targeting the deceased’s son, accusing him of having an affair with one of the suspect’s girlfriends.
An operation was launched, and just after midnight on Tuesday, 3 September 2024, police apprehended the suspects at a residence in Majuba, Mandeni. They were found in possession of two firearms—one homemade and the other with its serial number filed off.
Before the shooting, the suspects had allegedly kidnapped a man from eMakhwanini, dragged him to a nearby bush, tied him to a tree, and gagged him. The suspects reportedly told the man they planned to kill people at a specific homestead before returning to kill him. However, the victim managed to escape and reported the incident to police.
The suspects, aged 27 and 37, are scheduled to appear in the Nyoni Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 4 September 2024.
