KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed that they are fully prepared to manage several marches planned for Tuesday in support of Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
This follows serious allegations made by Mkhwanazi last week, in which he accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya of political interference in policing matters. His claims have triggered widespread reactions and public demonstrations backing his stance.
Various groups and political formations have since taken to the streets to show solidarity with Mkhwanazi, with more gatherings expected across the province.
KwaZulu-Natal Deputy Police Commissioner Phumelele Makhoba said law enforcement had engaged with march organisers, who assured authorities that their actions would remain peaceful. She added that the police are taking no chances and remain on high alert.
She stated that the province is always prepared for such developments and confirmed that officers are already deployed, with comprehensive plans in place to ensure public safety.
