Eskom has announced a planned 10-hour power outage affecting several areas in Gauteng on Wednesday, 5 November, as part of essential maintenance work.
The power utility confirmed that electricity supply will be disrupted in parts of Temba, Tshwane, including New Eesteerust, Reefentse, Stinkwater RDP, and Trust Farm. The outage is expected to take place from 08:00 until 18:00.
According to Eskom, the interruption is necessary to carry out maintenance on its distribution network to improve infrastructure reliability and ensure a safe and efficient power supply across the province. The utility conducts regular planned maintenance on the electricity grid as part of its ongoing efforts to prevent unplanned outages.
Residents are urged to treat all electrical appliances as live during the outage to avoid potential safety hazards. Eskom apologised for the inconvenience and indicated that the maintenance schedule may change if unforeseen circumstances arise.
Former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter returns to South Africa
In a separate development, former Eskom Chief Executive Officer Andre de Ruyter has returned to South Africa following the completion of his teaching contract at Yale University in the United States.
De Ruyter left the country in 2023 after making corruption allegations involving senior African National Congress (ANC) officials and government representatives. His departure came shortly after an alleged assassination attempt involving cyanide poisoning.
