DStv subscribers will soon have access to a new entertainment channel as Canal+ prepares to launch Novelas+ on 1 July 2026.
The drama-focused channel will be available to viewers on DStv Access, Family, Compact, Compact Plus and Premium packages, offering a selection of international telenovelas and drama series from around the world.
The launch forms part of Canal+’s strategy to expand its content offering across Africa and further strengthen its partnership with MultiChoice, the operator of the DStv platform.
According to Canal+, Novelas+ has already become its most-watched channel in French-speaking African markets, prompting the broadcaster to introduce an English-language version aimed at audiences in South Africa and other English-speaking territories.
The channel will feature a range of drama productions from Latin America, Turkey, Portugal and the United States, bringing some of the world’s most popular telenovela and drama formats to local screens.
Canal+ believes there is strong demand for the genre, particularly given the enduring popularity of telenovelas among African audiences.
Canal+ Director for Content and General Entertainment for English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, Nomsa Philiso, said the channel was designed to cater to viewers who enjoy compelling drama and ongoing storylines.
Turkish dramas, which have gained significant international popularity in recent years, will form part of the channel’s offering alongside other global productions.
Viewers can expect a daily schedule featuring four different series during the week, with new episodes airing from Monday to Friday. The format is intended to mirror traditional telenovela programming, where audiences follow multiple storylines over an extended period.
According to MultiChoice, the channel’s programming will include a mix of romance, family dramas and suspense-driven narratives aimed at appealing to a broad audience.
The introduction of Novelas+ is the latest addition to DStv’s channel lineup as the broadcaster seeks to enhance value across its subscription packages.
MultiChoice LicenceCo CEO Willington Ngwepe said the new channel follows the recent introduction of Base Pulse, which focuses on music and culture, and SportyTV, a dedicated 24-hour sports channel.
The arrival of Novelas+ marks another step in expanding entertainment options for DStv subscribers, while reflecting the growing demand for international drama content across the African market.
