DStv has confirmed that 12 major channels will be removed from its platform after negotiations with Warner Bros Discovery failed. A further four channels, supplied by Paramount Africa as well as CBS and AMC Networks, will also be discontinued as part of broader cost-cutting and restructuring efforts.
WARNER BROS DISCOVERY CHANNELS TO GO
On Tuesday, 2 December, the broadcaster announced that a dozen Warner Bros Discovery channels will be taken off air by 1 January 2026. The update was issued to subscribers via a push notification, following weeks of uncertainty about the outcome of the negotiations.
The channels being removed include:
- Discovery Channel
- TLC
- Cartoonito
- Cartoon Network
- CNN International
- Food Network
- Travel Channel
- TNT
- Investigation Discovery
- Real Time
- HGTV
- Discovery Family
FOUR MORE CHANNELS TO BE DISCONTINUED
In a separate development, Paramount Africa confirmed that BET Africa and MTV Base will cease broadcasting at the end of 2025. The decision forms part of a global restructuring process aimed at reducing the company’s international footprint.
CBS and AMC Networks have also revealed plans to scale down their operations, resulting in the planned shutdown of CBS Reality and CBS Justice.
CUSTOMERS EXPRESS FRUSTRATION
The announcement sparked widespread frustration on the X platform, where many subscribers indicated that they plan to cancel their DStv services. Others noted that they had already left the platform, citing rising prices, shrinking content options, and dissatisfaction with the platform’s fixed package model.
