Trump and Starmer Seal ‘Tech Prosperity Deal’ in Landmark U.K.-U.S. Pact
London — President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on Thursday signed what both leaders hailed as a “ground-breaking” billion-dollar Tech Prosperity Deal, setting in motion one of the largest U.K.-U.S. investment packages in decades.
The agreement, concluded at Chequers during Trump’s state visit, commits U.S. technology giants to pour more than £150 billion into Britain over the coming years. Microsoft, Nvidia and Google are among the companies leading the charge, with pledges to expand cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence supercomputing and advanced data centres across the United Kingdom.
Microsoft will commit about £22 billion over four years to bolster Britain’s AI capacity, while Nvidia has promised to deploy some 120,000 Blackwell AI chips and fund new supercomputing hubs. Google, through its DeepMind subsidiary, will channel billions more into research and development projects.
The package extends beyond investment, with the creation of “AI Growth Zones” in regions such as north-east England designed to accelerate planning approvals, secure energy supply and support new jobs. One site in Loughton has already been designated as the future home of Britain’s largest AI supercomputer.
Officials said the deal will not only generate thousands of jobs but also position the U.K. as a global hub for artificial intelligence, quantum computing and civil nuclear technology. Both governments framed the pact as a cornerstone of a renewed transatlantic partnership.
While welcomed as a lifeline for Britain’s struggling economy, critics warned that reliance on American firms could risk ceding too much control over the U.K.’s future tech landscape. Environmental groups also raised concerns about the energy demands of large-scale data centres.
Despite the scepticism, Starmer called the agreement a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to rebuild Britain’s economy,” while Trump described it as “proof that the U.K. and U.S. are stronger when they lead the world together in technology.”
