The City of Tshwane has confirmed that urgent maintenance at the Kentron Substation in Centurion commenced on 19 August and will continue until Thursday, 21 August. Work is scheduled daily between 8:00 and 16:00.
According to the municipality, the maintenance is part of an essential upgrade to the substation. Power supply will be temporarily interrupted as technicians transfer the load from the ageing 11kV board to a newly installed one. The upgrade is intended to stabilise the local electricity grid and reduce the risk of future supply disruptions.
The city has arranged phased power outages affecting specific areas on different days. Highveld experienced an outage on 19 August, with Highveld and Irene scheduled for 20 August. On the final day, 21 August, Telkom’s head office in Highveld will be affected.
Residents and businesses in the impacted areas have been urged to make necessary arrangements, and the municipality has advised that all electricity supply points should be regarded as live during the maintenance period.
Local businesses are expected to face the greatest disruption, particularly during working hours when reliance on electricity is highest.
While acknowledging the inconvenience, the City of Tshwane said the scheduled work is unavoidable and forms part of efforts to strengthen infrastructure. The municipality also issued an apology to residents and businesses for the disruption.
