Harare, Zimbabwe — Zimbabwean award-winning actress and creative-tech entrepreneur Tendaiishe Chitima has returned home after completing an intensive motion-capture research residency in the United Kingdom. The programme took place from October 20 to October 30, 2025, and was hosted by two of the world’s leading performance-capture institutions, Creature Bionics and London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
The residency was supported by a Catalyst Grant from British Council Zimbabwe together with backing from Zimbabwean telecommunications provider Telco Zimbabwe and UK-based health-tech firm Check Up Health.
Chitima used her time in the UK to deepen her understanding of motion capture technologies — a discipline she describes as “not just technology, but a doorway into a new era of African imagination, performance, and empowerment”. She intends to channel that knowledge into building Zimbabwe’s first performance-capture studio through her company Tunga Mwenje in collaboration with local animation firm Alula Animation.
The proposed studio is scheduled to offer interactive workshops, performance-capture labs and skills-development programmes for filmmakers, dancers, animators and young creatives across Zimbabwe. It also aims to build bridges between local talent and international collaborators, helping to position Zimbabwe on the global creative-tech map.
Chitima will present a summary of her UK research at Alula Animation’s XPO on November 28 2025 at the New Ambassador Hotel in Harare.
